Hey that's great. I love how the little deer are looking around and trying to figure out what's going on and what this box in the woods is.

and all that with just a few simple black lines.

Well done.

This is a surprise just for the way you've handled the subject matter. Very clean and dynamic.

Like how the deer are as much a surprise to us as the gift is to them :) Beautiful falling snow - very delicate - in fact the deer are also beautiful and delicate! Fine work :) You are moving towards minimalism ...

Ey, yous guys, what's in da present? Um Spike, it's a surprise.

Shhh, ya hear that? I think I hear sleigh bells. Man, I hope that fat dude in the red suit doesn't make us pull his sleigh again.

Aw well, since Cat made us some pretty Reindeer blankets at least we'll stay warm in this lovely snow.

Sleigh bells ring are ya listenin?

Spike, be quiet.

Well, we make such a pretty picture, it makes me wanna sing. geez, yous guys, calm down. Get some "Holiday" (hehe) spirit, will ya?

The deer remind me of the little birch bark deer people make and put on their lawns...very stick-like and cute. I like the use of pattern on their bodies and the very simple tone on tone background...It's very graphic and pleasing:>

I really like the snowflakes coming down ...they seem to be part of the surprise:)

Yeah! Deceptively simple. There's a lot going on there. Really like the contrast between the patterns of the snowflakes and the patterns on the deer. Great subtle shadows on the snow. Nice.

I love this I wonder that's in the box... will you reveal all later like a one-door advent calendar?

Queen Tut said...

excellent, love the thoughts behind this!

Tony Sarrecchia said...

This would be great wrapping paper. Sooo, what's in the box?

Iker Paz said...

I love the way your mind works. The compos are brilliant, perfectly chosen and limited to the essential.

The result is always good, and truly inspirring, as well as your thoughts.

Loved the wasp story.

You know, when we think of depicting surprise, most of us usually try and use the whole 'raised eyebrows, open mouth and wide open eyes' thingie to show the feeling of surprise...Amazing that you managed to make the deer look surprised without using any of the above :D

What I enjoyed most is MY surprise at deers in coats! And then I wondered what present they'd asked for. Love it!

in the midst of snow
no deer lifted a brow
when the parcel fell
only Martin took a smell.

what a great group of (rather hapless looking) deer!

did you draw this yourself ..
since the reindeers are the presents what are we supposed to do i.e. how to get the presents out? kill them and then see what's inside?

Ian T. said...

I love those nonchalant parents! Do reindeers believe in Santa? :) Cute, funny and right on the the theme!
