Prairie Chicken
The Lesser Prairie Chicken is listed as Vulnerable, but truly its status needs to be degraded to Endangered. It was listed as 'Vulnerable' years ago, and the conditions threatening its survival have not improved...in fact, they worsen with increasing loss of habitat.

What sweet little illo. I hope they do change their status to endangered.
Very nice
Darling little thing - not 'lesser' at all!
Being a bit of a bird fanatic, I love this one and the accompanying pamphlet.
I love him!
Thought I saw a prairie chicken one day last week along the road just north of Imperial Nebraska.
The guy riding with me, who's from the area, told me that ain't no chicken you dumbass. That's a grouse.
I got something wrong. What's new?
Sweet illo! It looks right at home in that tall grass.
So sweet :O)
Kevin, I'm pretty sure that you can tell your friend that both the Greater and Lesser Prairie Chickens are grouse.
You mean I got something right! Cool, that doesn't happen all that often. True story though. It just cracked me up they way he said it.
Not to change the subject but on any given day we'd probably see 10 to 15 pheasants along the road. I just think they're the coolest looking birds around.
Guess your boy is in repose... nice cap ;)
Aren't those show-off boys cute? Great great great as usual. Nice attitude Cat. I've never seen one in person, but I imagine their personalities to be just like that.
xo
like the dimensional quality this has.
Does make you wonder what it takes to be endangered now a days.
Lovely illustration, Cat. I think you've captured the essence of the bird very well.
cat - just wanted to say hey, and love you, and keep the faith!
