some quickie photos

These are some shots of birdies in Missoula. I used my digital camera, but only had it set on the lowest resolution, so the pictures were small. But still - they're birds.

Here is a photo I took today (11mar09) of a crow...

Let's see, northern flicker, pigeons, mallard duck and ... little brown job. (That's what my bird-watching teacher called them.)

I heard the first flicker drumming yesterday!

andrea: I love flickers. Had one in love with a stove pipe once...clang clang clang! I love their markings. This little guy was not too afraid of me. He let me get pretty close before flying up to a telephone pole...waiting for me to move on.

Patia: Yep. My hubby used to call them, tweety birds. I think this one was a female sparrow, but darker than I'm used to seeing them. She was rich sort of brown...and not too boldly marked.

Oh I love them!! I thought Northern Flickers came down here for the winter!!! I get them in my yard too!

(Oh - I added the B.W.O picture with the crow to my blog!!! - Thanks for that!!)

Wow - unusual to see a flicker on the ground - cool. I hear their loud kiiirrrr shrieks ever day. Band tailed pigeons - and the mallard female & tweety bird - yes, all make me smile. Good pictures (say, are you taking over for bird anonymous?).

oops - definitely not band tails - no yellow beak. Just plain old european rock doves. Just as pretty :)

You picture of the mallard made me miss our ducks. We gave them away to a farmer last year, so I could grow wine grapes in their pen. I actually trained our golden retriever to stop attacking them some years ago. Will I go to Hell for that? It's so contra naturam.

I like each of these very much ... and, where's anonymous been? I bet he'd like these too!

I do believe that last little cutie is a Junco ;)

hey, it's the pigeon on my envelope that's now making it's way to Malaysia!

I love the Northern Flicker too. We had one a couple of years back that I lovingly called Nutty because I thought it was a Nuthatch. Now he has extended family that stops by. I took all my feeders away because of the Norwegian rats and the neighbors kitties. I weaned them when food was plentiful though. I sure miss seeing them at the feeders.

I'm disappointed. There are no crows in your collection.

The top one is a Rocket bird, I say. Had a big bunch of them on the lawn at the last snow fall. Talk about loud! You'd think they were having a convention.
